24 Aug Prince Edward Island joins the Northeast Compact

On August 10, 2016 at the 67^th Annual Meeting of the Northeast Forest Fire Protection Commission in Westbrook, CT, the province of Prince Edward Island (PEI) was formally accepted as a full member of the Northeast Forest Fire Protection Compact.  PEI was the only province in Canada that was not a member of an international forest fire compact with U.S. states.  Except for one northeastern territory, all provinces and territories of Canada are now members of forest fires compacts with the U.S.  Currently, 44 U.S. states have mutual aid agreements through 8 forest fire compacts covering the U.S and Canada.
